InDepth: Bubbles McCoy

Sunday 26 September 2010

The InDepth Column introduces the most interesting, famous and exquisite Citizens of Chicago. The questionnaire is almost the same and what makes each interview unique is the subject’s answers and reactions.

She is beautiful, emotional, courageous, loving… and she shot the Mayor! Meet Mrs. Bubbles McCoy and take an InDepth look into her character…

*Name:  Bubbles McCoy
*Age:  Old enough to know better, young enough to learn
*Rez day:  Sept 20, 2004
*Best moment in SL:  Standing on the side of the track at the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Second Life in 2006 and watching the Cancer Survivors walk their victory lap and seeing my best friend come around the corner walking that survivor lap...I was filled with tears of joy that he was walking as a cancer Survivor and tears of sadness at the thoughts of all the treatment he went thru to become a survivor and tears of hope that he will walk many more survivor laps because of what we are all doing to help find a cure.  And he has since walked 4 more years on that track and will be here to walk again in July 2011 when we do it again.

CH: What brought you to Chicago?
BM: I came here when I was 17. Looking for the excitement the city brought and I met my late husband, Walter McCoy, a few years later, and he fell madly in love. He taught me about art and took me on buying trips with him. I met Fayandria Foley in Paris during one of those trips. Walter and I made several trips to Paris and I always looked up Fay and we had a grand time. When I found out she lived in Chicago too, it made my decision to remain here after my husband’s unfortunate early demise an easy decision.

CH: Tell us a bit about your background.
BM: I grew up in a farm in Iowa. Bubbles is not my real name but one I legally changed it to when I moved to Chicago.  I was a bit of a handful for my parents, but I knew the farm life was not for me and as soon as I was done school, I packed my bags and was gone.

CH: I know you’re always very busy, but fill us in on your daily tasks.
BM: I am always working on art displays and organizing buying trips.  I also manage the Fiume Club and am busy working on getting some swell entertainment for the fine folks of Chicago.

CH: What do you like to do in your spare time you find?
BM: Wander the streets of Chicago exploring, attend Fay Foley's dinner parties, dance at the speakeasies and of course shopping!

CH: What was your proudest moment in regards to Chicago?
BM: When I shot the mayor !!  First time with a gun and who knew I had such good aim (laughs)
CH: If you were offered one million dollars or the ability to have one superpower for the rest of your life, what would you choose and why?
BM: I would have the superpower of curing cancer and use it on every person who ever heard the words "you have cancer".

CH: What or who is your favourite and why…
BM: Animal?  Dogs.  My mixed breed beagle dog Sammi was my best friend for 12 years. Where else can you get unconditional love?
Superhero?  My dad.  He taught me so much about love, strength, compassion, fairness, honesty before he passed away.
Place to live?  Greek Islands  or New Zealand.  Not sure why but those 2 places draw me to them.
Place to vacation?  New Jersey - I get to visit my best friend every year.
Season of the year?  Fall.  It is the time when God takes out his paint brush and paints with all those wonderful colours
Book?  The little black book my late husband left me. It is filled with scandalous notes about some of the high power people in Chicago, and some secretly snapped photographs. And I have started to add entries in it also as of late.   This book will ensure I never want for anything as along as I stay in Chicago.
Movie?  Pandora's Box - love, lust, betrayal, murder it has it all
Celebrity?   Louise Brooks - she is beautiful, classy, smart.
      Hobby? Sharp shooting
